On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the immense potential of India’s concert economy, pointing to the success of recent high-profile performances like Coldplay’s sold-out shows in Mumbai and Ahmedabad as evidence of the growing demand for live events in the country.

Speaking at the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025, PM Modi emphasized the opportunity to boost tourism, generate employment, and enhance India’s global presence in the creative sector. He noted that India’s rich cultural heritage, large youth population, and rising demand for live entertainment make it an attractive destination for concerts.

“In a country with such a deep-rooted heritage in music, dance, and storytelling, combined with a massive youth demographic and a thriving consumer base for live events, the concert economy holds vast potential,” PM Modi said. “The remarkable success of the Coldplay concerts in Mumbai and Ahmedabad is clear proof of how much room there is for live performances to thrive in India.”

The Prime Minister further stressed that top global artists are increasingly drawn to India, which presents a significant opportunity for investment in infrastructure to support the concert economy. He urged both state and private sectors to focus on building the necessary infrastructure, recognizing its capacity to drive revenue and create jobs.

PM Modi also announced that India will host its first-ever World Audio-Visual Summit next month, which will serve as a global platform to showcase the country’s creative potential. “This summit will highlight India’s creative power and enhance its global identity,” he added. “The concert economy boosts tourism and generates significant employment opportunities, and the revenue from such events contributes to economic growth.”

On infrastructure development, PM Modi noted the progress being made across the country, positioning India as an increasingly attractive destination for investment. He highlighted the development of industrial cities and connectivity projects like the dedicated freight corridor linking East and West coasts, as well as the investments being made in Odisha’s railway and highway networks.

“To lower logistics costs for industries in Odisha, we are connecting the state’s ports to industrial hubs. New ports are also being developed, positioning Odisha to become a leader in India’s blue economy,” he said.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of strengthening India’s supply and value chains, particularly in supporting MSMEs and start-ups, while investing in research and innovation to drive industrial growth.

“We must build a robust supply chain within India, one that is resilient to global economic fluctuations. The government and industry share the responsibility for supporting MSMEs and fostering start-ups,” PM Modi said. “No industry can succeed without embracing new technologies, and this requires continuous research and innovation.”

He concluded by highlighting the government’s efforts to cultivate a thriving research ecosystem, with special funds and packages for internships and skill development. “The stronger our research ecosystem, the more our industries will benefit,” he said.
