Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for transforming India’s healthcare landscape through a holistic and inclusive approach. Speaking at the inauguration of the Bengaluru campus of Adichunchanagiri University, Shah highlighted key initiatives that have redefined healthcare delivery across the country.
“PM Modi has addressed health with a holistic view,” Shah said, citing landmark government initiatives such as the construction of toilets in 12 crore households, the launch of the Fit India Movement, the celebration of International Yoga Day, and the rollout of multiple health-focused welfare schemes.
He underlined the impact of programs like Mission Indradhanush (free vaccinations), Poshan Abhiyan (maternal and child nutrition), Ayushman Bharat (Rs 5 lakh health insurance), and the PM Janaushadhi Scheme (affordable medicines), which together reflect a comprehensive vision for public health.
Highlighting the Modi government’s contribution to health infrastructure, Shah noted a remarkable expansion in the number of medical colleges and institutions since 2014. “India had only seven AIIMS in 2014. Today, there are 23 AIIMS. Medical colleges have doubled from 387 to 780, and MBBS seats have increased to 1.18 lakh,” he said.
Amit Shah also praised Adichunchanagiri Math for its role in serving society, saying, “This Math has connected many poor and middle-class families with spirituality and selfless action.”
During his visit to Karnataka, Shah received a warm welcome from BJP leaders and supporters in Bengaluru. He also met with senior BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, sharing a photo of their meeting on social media platform X.
The visit underlined the BJP’s continuing focus on health, education, and grassroots engagement ahead of the upcoming state and national developments.
