PM Modi Hails Ujjwal Nikam’s Constitutional Commitment After Rajya Sabha Nomination

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday congratulated renowned public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam on his nomination to the Rajya Sabha, praising his unwavering dedication to the Constitution and justice system.

Calling Nikam’s career “exemplary,” PM Modi said the veteran lawyer has been instrumental in upholding constitutional values and ensuring justice for common citizens. “He has not only been a successful lawyer but also at the forefront of seeking justice in important cases,” Modi wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Nikam is best known for leading the prosecution in several high-profile criminal cases, including the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and the 1993 Bombay blasts trial.

He is one of four eminent personalities nominated to the Upper House by President Droupadi Murmu under Article 80(1)(a) of the Constitution, with the move widely seen as recognition of their contributions to the nation.

PM Modi also extended his congratulations to the other three nominees in separate posts, describing their nominations as a celebration of excellence in law, diplomacy, social service, and historical research.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued an official notification confirming the nominations, which come after the retirement of previously nominated members.
