Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed on Wednesday for a five-nation tour aimed at bolstering India’s global ties, attending the 17th BRICS Summit, and holding high-level meetings with leaders of Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia.

The tour begins with a historic visit to Ghana, marking the first trip by an Indian Prime Minister to the West African nation in over three decades. PM Modi will meet President John Mahama to review bilateral cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration in defence, energy, economy, and development. The visit also reinforces India’s engagement with regional groupings like ECOWAS and the African Union.

In the second leg, PM Modi will travel to Trinidad and Tobago from July 3 to 4 — his first official visit to the Caribbean nation. He will meet with President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, and is expected to address a Joint Session of Parliament, highlighting the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between the two countries.

On July 4–5, PM Modi will visit Argentina, where he is scheduled to hold talks with President Javier Milei. The leaders will review the ongoing India-Argentina strategic partnership and discuss cooperation in defence, agriculture, renewable energy, trade, oil and gas, and mining.

PM Modi will then proceed to Brazil to attend the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro from July 5 to 8. This will be his fourth visit to Brazil. During the summit, global issues such as reforming international institutions, climate action, artificial intelligence, health, and economic resilience will be discussed. PM Modi is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasília to strengthen strategic cooperation in trade, defence, energy, agriculture, and space.

The final stop of the tour will be Namibia on July 9, where PM Modi will undertake his first state visit to the country. He will hold discussions with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and pay tribute to Namibia’s founding leader, Late Sam Nujoma. PM Modi is also expected to address the Namibian Parliament during his visit.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the five-nation visit underlines India’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships across continents and reaffirms its leadership role in shaping a more cooperative, equitable global order.
