Prime Minister Narendra Modi left the national capital on Monday for a four-day trip to France and the United States, where he will hold talks with President Emmanuel Macron and President Donald Trump.
PM Modi’s visit to France, from February 10-12, comes at the invitation of President Macron. During his time in France, the Prime Minister will co-chair the AI Action Summit with President Macron. The two leaders are also scheduled to visit the historic city of Marseille, where they will inaugurate India’s first consulate in France. Additionally, they will visit the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, a global collaboration involving India and France, aimed at harnessing energy for the benefit of the world.
Following his stay in France, PM Modi will head to the United States for a two-day visit at the invitation of President Donald Trump. This marks the first meeting between the two leaders since President Trump began his second term in office.
Upon his arrival in Paris on Monday evening, PM Modi will attend a dinner hosted by President Macron at the Elysee Palace, which will be attended by numerous CEOs from the tech industry and other distinguished guests invited to the AI Action Summit.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri recently announced that PM Modi will co-chair the AI Action Summit with President Macron on February 11. Following the summit, the two leaders will participate in a bilateral discussion and address the India-France CEOs Forum.
On the evening of February 11, PM Modi will travel to Marseille, where President Macron will host another dinner in his honor. The following day, February 12, the leaders will visit a war cemetery to honor the Indian soldiers who made sacrifices during World War I. They will also inaugurate the new Indian Consulate in Marseille and visit the ITER site.
After concluding his visit to France, PM Modi will travel to the US, where he will meet with President Trump and engage with senior US administration leaders. This will be their first in-person meeting since President Trump took office for a second term. Prior to this visit, PM Modi had traveled to the US in June 2017 and hosted President Trump for a state visit to India in February 2020. The two leaders have also spoken by phone twice since November 2024—on November 6, 2024, and January 27, 2025.
