On the occasion of World Water Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to conserving water and promoting sustainable development. Emphasizing the vital role of water in human civilization, he urged collective efforts to protect this precious resource for future generations.
“On World Water Day, we reaffirm our commitment to conserve water and promote sustainable development. Water has been the lifeline of civilizations, and thus, it is more important to protect it for future generations!” PM Modi posted on X.
Marking the day, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Government of Haryana, is set to launch the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: ‘Catch the Rain – 2025’ campaign.
According to the Ministry of Jal Shakti, this year’s theme, “People’s Action for Water Conservation – Towards Intensified Community Connect,” highlights the need for water security, rainwater harvesting, and groundwater recharge amid climate change and rising water challenges.
The initiative will focus on 148 districts across India, encouraging greater collaboration between government agencies, communities, and stakeholders to ensure sustainable water management.
The ‘Catch the Rain – 2025’ campaign aims to drive nationwide awareness and action, reinforcing the vision of “Every Drop Counts.” The initiative calls upon citizens to participate in securing India’s water future through innovative conservation methods and community-driven solutions.
World Water Day, observed annually on March 22 since 1993, is a United Nations initiative that underscores the importance of freshwater. A key focus of the day is achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6: Water and Sanitation for All by 2030.
