Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a two-day visit to Bihar, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh beginning Friday, to launch and inaugurate a host of infrastructure, connectivity, and social welfare projects, while also leading the International Yoga Day celebrations from Visakhapatnam on June 21.
In Bihar’s Siwan, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate several developmental initiatives aimed at boosting connectivity, clean energy, and urban welfare. Key highlights include:
- Inauguration of the new Vaishali-Deoria railway line worth over ₹400 crore and the flagging off of a new train service on this route.
- Launch of the Patliputra-Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express, enhancing connectivity across North Bihar.
- Flagging off India’s first export locomotive from Bihar’s Marhowra Plant to the Republic of Guinea — part of the “Make in India – Make for the World” initiative.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) under the Namami Gange Project (₹1,800 crore) and lay the foundation for additional water and sanitation projects worth over ₹3,000 crore.
He will launch a 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) for 15 substations across Bihar, aimed at reducing energy costs for consumers and modernising the power infrastructure.
As part of housing initiatives, PM Modi will release the first instalment to over 53,600 PMAY-U beneficiaries and participate in the Grih Pravesh ceremony for over 6,600 newly constructed homes.
In the afternoon, PM Modi will arrive in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, to commemorate one year of the current state government’s tenure. He will unveildevelopment projects worth ₹18,600 crore, spanning multiple sectors:
- Drinking water, irrigation, healthcare, agriculture infrastructure, rural roads and bridges, and national highway development.
- Launch of train services extending to Odisha’s Boudh district for the first time.
- Flagging off 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system, promoting clean mobility.
PM Modi will also release the ‘Odisha Vision Document’, outlining developmental milestones for 2036 and 2047, aligning with Odisha’s 100th anniversary as a linguistic state and India’s centenary of independence respectively.
A new cultural initiative, ‘Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana’, will also be launched to honour eminent Odia personalities by transforming their birthplaces into heritage centers. PM Modi will also felicitate women achievers, especially celebrating the 16.5 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis’ of Odisha.
On June 21, the Prime Minister will lead the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, beginning with a mass yoga demonstration at 6:30 AM on the city’s beachfront. Nearly 5 lakh people are expected to participate in the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) session alongside PM Modi.
This year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” emphasizes the unity of human and planetary wellness. Simultaneous events are scheduled at over 3.5 lakh locations across India. Initiatives such as ‘Yoga with Family’ and ‘Yoga Unplugged’ have been launched to engage citizens through digital platforms like MyGov and MyBharat.
Since the UN’s adoption of India’s proposal in 2015, PM Modi has led Yoga Day celebrations from diverse global and Indian locations including New York, Srinagar, and Mysuru, making IDY a worldwide wellness movement.
