Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the fourth edition of Semicon India in New Delhi, declaring that the world now trusts India and is ready to partner in building the future of semiconductors.

Addressing a global gathering of industry leaders, experts, and representatives from 48 countries, PM Modi said, “Today I am here with the confidence that the world trusts India, the world believes in India, and the world is ready to build the semiconductor future with India.” He added that India was prepared to welcome investors, with the goal of achieving global recognition as “Designed in India, Made in India, Trusted by the World.”

Highlighting India’s 7.8% GDP growth in the first quarter of FY 2025–26, the Prime Minister noted that the country had outperformed global expectations at a time when other economies struggled with challenges arising from “economic selfishness.”

Underscoring the strategic importance of chips, PM Modi said, “Oil was black gold, but semiconductors are digital diamonds. The 21st century is powered by these chips, which hold the potential to accelerate global development.” He asserted that India is moving from a backend role to becoming a full-stack semiconductor nation, with commercial chips set to roll out this year.

Since the launch of the India Semiconductor Mission in 2021, the government has cleared projects worth ₹1.5 lakh crore across 10 semiconductor plants. Modi said a National Single Window System had been implemented to streamline approvals, ensuring “less paperwork, more wafer work.”

At the event, Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw presented the Vikram 32-bit processor—India’s first fully indigenously developed microchip—along with test chips from four approved projects, to PM Modi.

The three-day Semicon India 2025 conference will feature sessions on semiconductor fabs, advanced packaging, smart manufacturing, R&D, artificial intelligence, and state-level policy initiatives. It is expected to draw over 20,750 participants, including 2,500 international delegates, 150 speakers, and 350 exhibitors, along with country and start-up pavilions.
