Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of those who lost their lives in the tragic accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district on Sunday. Additionally, Rs 50,000 will be provided to those injured in the incident.
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) posted on X (formerly Twitter), expressing condolences and wishing a swift recovery for the injured. “Saddened by the loss of lives in an accident in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” the post read.
The accident occurred when a speeding van collided with a motorcycle and plunged into a well in the Narayangarh Police Station area. The mishap claimed 12 lives, including a motorcyclist and a villager who heroically tried to rescue those trapped inside.
Earlier, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries, from the Chief Minister’s discretionary fund.
Sharing his grief on X, CM Yadav said, “Sad news has been received about the untimely death of twelve people due to a car falling into a deep well in a horrific road accident in Narayangarh police station area of Mandsaur district.” He added that the local administration had conducted swift rescue operations and ensured medical care for the injured.
Mandsaur Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Anand confirmed that while four individuals were rescued, 12 lost their lives — 11 inside the well and one on the road.
Among the deceased was Manohar, a local villager who bravely descended into the well, saving six lives, including two children, before tragically losing his own life.
SP Anand conveyed deep condolences to the bereaved families and assured that all necessary legal procedures were being carried out.
