Delhi Congress President and Badli Assembly candidate Devendra Yadav has voiced confidence in the Congress Party’s return to power in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Yadav claimed that people are disillusioned with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and are determined to establish a strong Congress-led government.
Speaking to ANI, Yadav said, “Judging by the public mood, it’s clear that Delhi citizens are troubled by AAP’s governance. Be it issues like pensions for the poor, ration cards, or access to clean water, AAP has failed. The big promises made by Arvind Kejriwal have been exposed—he has not opened a single new school or Mohalla clinic. People have made up their minds to form a strong Congress government in 2025.”
Yadav is contesting against AAP’s Ajesh Yadav and BJP’s Deepak Chaudhary in the Badli Assembly constituency.
Meanwhile, Independent MP from Purnia, Bihar, Pappu Yadav, joined Congress’s campaign in Delhi and criticized AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal for failing to deliver on his promises. He accused Kejriwal of misusing public funds for advertising while neglecting governance.
“Arvind Kejriwal spends public money on advertisements. He has not fulfilled a single promise made to the people of Delhi. What new promises is he making now? AAP has betrayed the people, especially those from Purvanchal, to the extent that they now look to Congress for help,” Pappu Yadav said.
Congress candidate from Kalkaji Assembly constituency, Alka Lamba, also expressed optimism about her party’s chances. She said that people in Kalkaji are fed up with both the BJP and AAP and are yearning for change.
“Day by day, my belief is growing stronger that the people of Kalkaji want change. They are fed up with BJP and AAP. I am receiving overwhelming support from the public. We are focusing on connecting with women and families through small, personal meetings,” Lamba told ANI on Tuesday.
The Delhi Assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for the 70 assembly seats.
The Congress, which governed Delhi for 15 consecutive years until 2013, has struggled in recent elections, failing to win any seats in the 2015 and 2020 polls. In contrast, the AAP has dominated, securing 67 seats in 2015 and 62 seats in 2020, leaving the BJP with three and eight seats, respectively.
The Congress aims to make a strong comeback in 2025, banking on the public’s dissatisfaction with AAP and BJP governance.
