On the 18th death anniversary of former Delhi Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, his son and BJP leader Parvesh Verma paid tribute and reaffirmed his commitment to realising his father’s dreams for the people of Delhi and the NCR.
Speaking to ANI, Parvesh Verma said, “Thousands gathered today to remember my father. Our resolve is to fulfil his dreams, and we are moving in that direction.”
A havan ceremony was held in Delhi, drawing people from across the National Capital Region, many of whom had closely worked with or benefited from the former CM’s initiatives.
Earlier in the day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also paid homage. In a post on X, she hailed Verma as a steadfast voice for workers, farmers, and marginalised communities, and lauded his legacy of simplicity, service, and dedication to public welfare.
Sahib Singh Verma, who hailed from a humble agrarian background, began his political journey with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He served as Mayor of Delhi (1989–1991) and Chief Minister (1996–1998), initiating key reforms in governance, infrastructure, and public services.
In 1999, he became a Member of Parliament from Outer Delhi and was later appointed Union Minister of Labour in 2002, where he championed workers’ rights and employment welfare.
Sahib Singh Verma died in a road accident on June 30, 2007, while returning from Rajasthan. His legacy continues through Parvesh Verma, who remains active in both Delhi politics and policy advocacy.
