Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Monday sought to downplay speculation surrounding the visit of Congress general secretary and state in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala, saying he was unaware of the specific purpose of the meetings but believed it may relate to upcoming Zilla and Taluk Panchayat elections.

Addressing reporters, Parameshwara stated: “I don’t know for what purpose Surjewala has been called. He might speak about party organisation or the local body elections. Sometimes the high command intervenes—that’s their job. It’s natural when minor differences arise.”

Surjewala’s visit to Bengaluru comes amid speculation about organisational changes within the Karnataka Congress and a day after state minister KN Rajanna hinted at possible political developments in September.

Parameshwara clarified that he had requested a personal meeting with Surjewala, separate from the internal party discussions.

“My meeting is a personal matter,” he said.

He also commented on the possibility that Surjewala might advise party MLAs against making public statements on internal matters, reinforcing that such interventions are routine and do not signal any leadership crisis.

“That doesn’t mean the CM has lost control. The high command visits to assess how the administration is functioning and to provide guidance.”

The Karnataka Congress has been facing internal murmurs over power-sharing, performance reviews, and possible cabinet reshuffles. Surjewala’s meetings with MLAs are expected to offer clarity on the party’s direction ahead of key elections later this year.
