A paid holiday has been declared for employees in both the government and private sectors in Delhi as polling for the 70 assembly seats is set to take place on Wednesday, officials announced. Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have also joined in, granting a paid holiday for their employees due to the elections in Delhi.

Delhi’s Chief Electoral Officer, R Alice Vaz, informed ANI, “A paid holiday has been announced for shops, establishments, and staff in both government and private sectors. Our neighboring states, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, have also declared a paid holiday. We have made sure this information is widely communicated and are focusing on raising public awareness.”

Vaz further urged citizens to take part in the elections, saying, “I encourage all voters in Delhi to come out and vote, and to be part of this important democratic event.”

To maintain transparency, authorities will closely monitor polling stations through CCTV cameras, which will be observed from the Election Commission’s monitoring room in Delhi.

In the meantime, Delhi police have intensified preparations to ensure a smooth polling process. Special Commissioner of Police, DC Srivastava, told ANI, “All political parties have reached their polling booths and are preparing for a smooth process. Delhi police have made sure that elections are free and fair, and we will take action against anyone violating the law.”

Security forces conducted a flag march in the Shahpur Jat village near the Hauz Khas area. DCP South, Ankit Chauhan, said, “With less than 12 hours left for the election, we’ve increased patrols in densely populated areas. Flag marches are underway, and we will ensure that no disruptive elements interfere with the polling. Border checks are being tightened to prevent smuggling and illicit liquor, and we’re restricting the use of muscle power. The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), local police, and home guards are all deployed.”

“We’ve also set up social media monitoring cells to track and address posts quickly. Over ₹1 crore in cash has been seized from the South district, along with a large amount of illicit liquor. Additionally, we’ve confiscated two commercial quantities of narcotics,” he added.

Joint CP Law and Order (L&O) for Noida, Shiv Hari Meena, stated, “With Delhi’s assembly elections tomorrow, we’re conducting checks at 11 key border points. Senior officers are overseeing joint checks with the Delhi Police.”
