AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi issued a stern warning to the government on Monday regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024, urging that its current form could result in “social instability” in India. Owaisi claimed that the Bill has been overwhelmingly rejected by the Muslim community.
During his address in the Lok Sabha, Owaisi cautioned the government, stating, “If you bring and implement this Waqf law in its present form, which violates Article 25, 26, and 14 of the Constitution, it will lead to social instability. The entire Muslim community has rejected this Bill. If it passes, there will be no Waqf property left; nothing will remain.”
He further criticized the government’s vision for the country, saying, “You want to make India a ‘Viksit Bharat’, and we also want a ‘Viksit Bharat’. But you want to take this country back to the ’80s and early ’90s, and that will be your responsibility.”
Owaisi expressed his strong opposition to any attempt to encroach upon Waqf properties, declaring, “As a proud Indian Muslim, I will not lose an inch of my Masjid, nor an inch of my Dargah. I will not allow that. We are no longer going to offer diplomatic talks here. This House is where I stand to speak the truth — my community is proud to be Indian, and these properties belong to us. They are not given by anyone, and they cannot be taken away.”
Earlier in the day, opposition MPs Kalyan Banerjee (Lok Sabha) and Md. Nadimul Haque (Rajya Sabha) also raised strong objections to the removal of significant portions of their dissent notes on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2024. They accused the government of deleting their objections without notice or explanation.
In a letter addressed to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, the MPs expressed their dismay, writing, “We were shocked to discover that several objectives and dissent notes had been deleted by the Chairman without prior notice or our consent.” The letter, dated February 3, 2025, highlighted the lack of transparency in the process.
