Over 3.7 Million Devotees Take Holy Dip in Triveni Sangam as Mahakumbh Continues

The Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj is witnessing a surge of spiritual devotion as the Mahakumbh Mela progresses, with millions of devotees, saints, and Kalpvasis arriving to partake in the holy rituals. By 8 a.m. on Wednesday, more than 3.7 million pilgrims had taken a holy dip at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati, intensifying the spiritual fervor surrounding this grand religious event.

Among the devotees, over one million Kalpvasis and 2.7 million other pilgrims gathered early in the morning to seek divine blessings. According to data from the Uttar Pradesh government, the total number of bathers since the start of the Mahakumbh has surpassed 382 million as of February 4, highlighting the event’s immense cultural and spiritual importance. With several weeks still to go, this number is expected to rise even further.

In related news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj today. Around 11 a.m., the Prime Minister will take a holy dip at the Sangam and offer prayers to Maa Ganga.

High-profile figures from various fields have also joined the pilgrimage, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who visited the Sangam earlier. Recently, producer Vinod Bhanushali, along with Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin and actress Dakota Johnson, also took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. On Tuesday, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck participated in the sacred bath, accompanied by UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

The Mahakumbh Mela, which began on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025), is the world’s largest spiritual gathering, drawing devotees from all corners of the globe. The Mela will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26, 2025. As the event unfolds, it is expected to break attendance and participation records, reaffirming its significance as one of the most important religious and cultural events in the world.
