Devotees continue to flock to Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh, with over 3.09 million (30.94 lakh) people taking a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam by 8 am on Wednesday. This brings the total number of devotees who have participated in the sacred ritual to over 55.56 million (55.56 crores), according to the Uttar Pradesh Information Department.
The 2025 Maha Kumbh, the largest spiritual and cultural event in the world, began on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025) and is set to conclude on February 26.
Notable figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and other Union Ministers, as well as several celebrities, have also taken part in the holy dip at the Triveni Sangam.
On Tuesday, former ISRO Chairman Dr. S Somnath, along with his family, joined the thousands of pilgrims at the Maha Kumbh. They took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam and participated in the spiritual experience of the gathering. Dr. Somnath shared his experience on social media, writing, “Maha Kumbh was experienced as humanity’s search for the connection to the universe and to have the ‘Amrut’, the nectar of life. I had a blissful snan at the Triveni Sangam in the company of Sadhus.”
Dr. Somnath described the Maha Kumbh as a symbol of humanity’s quest for a deeper connection with the universe and the divine. He reflected on the event’s profound spiritual significance while sharing his blissful experience at the Sangam.
Earlier this week, on Monday, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath praised the state’s transformative progress, pointing to Prayagraj, Kashi, and Ayodhya as symbols of India’s rising potential. He credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for restoring India’s faith and respect globally. He also highlighted the surge in devotees visiting Ayodhya, with the number increasing from 2.35 lakh in 2016-17 to over 14-15 crore in 2024, marking a remarkable growth in both spiritual reverence and economic development.
In addition to Prayagraj, a massive influx of pilgrims was observed at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and Ayodhya, where many devotees are continuing their pilgrimage after taking the holy dip.
