On Thursday, over 1.47 million devotees took a holy dip at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati during the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, according to state government officials.
Among the devotees, 500,000 are Kalpavasis, while nearly 979,000 are pilgrims participating in the grand religious event, which is one of the largest in the world. As of February 12, the total number of devotees who have bathed in the Triveni waters has surpassed 482.9 million, marking a significant milestone in the festival.
In a related development, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, along with the state’s Council of Ministers, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Governor, Members of Parliament (MPs), and Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), departed for Prayagraj on Thursday to take part in the holy dip at Mahakumbh 2025.
Before leaving, CM Sai expressed his gratitude to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Speaker of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly for inviting him to the event. “Our Council of Ministers, Speaker of our Legislative Assembly, the Governor, MPs, and MLAs — all are going to Prayagraj for the holy dip at the Maha Kumbh. I am thankful to CM Yogi Adityanath and the Speaker for inviting us,” CM Sai said in a statement.
The ‘snan’ (holy bath) for Magh Purnima concluded successfully on Wednesday, marking a major milestone in the event’s progress. Anuj Jha, Secretary of the Urban Development Department, remarked on the successful completion of the Magh Purnima snan, highlighting the participation of lakhs of Kalpavasis and crores of pilgrims in the past month. “Urban Development was the nodal department, and all the arrangements were made efficiently,” Jha said.
The Mahakumbh 2025, which began on Paush Purnima (January 13, 2025), is the world’s largest spiritual and cultural gathering. The event continues to attract pilgrims from all over the world and will run until Mahashivratri on February 26, 2025.
