The mother of Manjunath Rao, a Karnataka native who was among the 26 victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, voiced her strong support for the Indian government’s Operation Sindoor, calling the name and the mission an appropriate and justified response.

“We were hopeful that Prime Minister Modi would take good action. Operation Sindoor is an appropriate name for the operation,” she said, following India’s precision airstrikes that targeted nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Rao, who was vacationing with his family as part of a tourist group, was shot dead when terrorists opened fire, deliberately targeting male members of the group. His wife, Pallavi Manjunath, who survived the attack, called the tragedy a “bad dream” and said such a loss should never befall any other family.

On May 7, in a coordinated military effort involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, the Indian Armed Forces struck key Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) facilities in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, Mehmoona Joya, and five other locations in PoJK. The strikes marked India’s most extensive cross-border military operation in Pakistan’s undisputed territory since the 1971 war.

According to defence officials, the strikes were carefully planned using precision munitions to ensure no civilian casualties, focusing only on high-value terrorist infrastructure.

Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the Pahalgam massacre, which left families across India — including Manjunath Rao’s — devastated, and the government resolute in its commitment to bring the perpetrators to justice.
