Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reiterated the Narendra Modi-led government’s firm stance against drug trafficking, declaring that there will be “no mercy for drug cartels.” He highlighted the government’s “bottom-to-top and top-to-bottom” approach in combating the illegal drug trade.
In a post on social media platform X, Shah announced a major breakthrough in the crackdown on narcotics, stating, “Accelerating the Modi govt’s march to build a drug-free Bharat, a massive consignment of methamphetamine tablets worth ₹88 crore has been seized, and four members of an international drug cartel have been arrested in the Imphal and Guwahati zones.” He added that the successful operation reflects the efficiency of the government’s investigative strategy.
Reaffirming the government’s relentless pursuit of drug traffickers, Shah stated, “Our hunt for drugs continues.” He emphasized the BJP-led government’s commitment to dismantling illegal drug networks and ensuring national security.
The latest operation follows a series of recent drug seizures. On March 3, the Assam Rifles, in coordination with Mizoram Police, intercepted methamphetamine tablets worth ₹60.63 crore in Mizoram’s Champhai district. The operation, conducted on February 28 in the general area of Crossing Point One, Zokhawthar, resulted in a significant drug bust.
Earlier, on February 28, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police conducted another intelligence-based operation in Mizoram, leading to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of arms and ammunition. Additionally, on February 27, security forces launched a successful operation in Lawngtlai town, Lawngtlai district, apprehending two individuals and seizing ammunition.
With an intensified crackdown on drug cartels, the government continues to strengthen its fight against the illegal drug trade, ensuring a safer and drug-free India.
