BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Tuesday ridiculed the Opposition for expressing shock over Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation, comparing their reaction to a dramatic performance by Bollywood actor Kader Khan.

Responding to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh’s suggestion that there might be “more than meets the eye” in Dhankhar’s resignation, Dubey took to social media and posted, “Opposition is playing the role of Kader Khan in the film,” referring to the emotional theatrics often seen in Khan’s cinematic roles.

Dubey also reminded the public that just months ago, several opposition parties had demanded Dhankhar’s impeachment, accusing him of partisanship. “They had brought a proposal to remove him. Now they’re concerned about his health? At least respect that,” Dubey posted on X.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh had earlier termed the resignation “shocking and unimaginable.” He stated that he had personally met Dhankhar around 5 PM on Monday and even spoke to him again at 7:30 PM, hours before the resignation was announced.

“Undoubtedly, Jagdeep Dhankhar should prioritise his health. But it’s clear there’s more to this completely unexpected resignation than meets the eye. Nevertheless, this is not the time for speculation,” Ramesh wrote.

Ramesh further highlighted Dhankhar’s recent efforts to bridge gaps between government and opposition, and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to persuade the Vice President to reconsider. He also noted that Dhankhar had been preparing to make an important announcement related to the judiciary.

“He had taken both government and opposition to task equally. He had scheduled a Business Advisory Committee meeting and was set to make major announcements concerning the judiciary,” Ramesh added.

Dhankhar resigned Monday evening, citing health reasons. In a letter to President Droupadi Murmu, he wrote, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”

The resignation came amid growing anticipation over an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma. On the first day of the monsoon session, Dhankhar acknowledged receiving a motion from MPs seeking Justice Varma’s removal. The judge was reportedly under scrutiny after an in-house probe linked him to a fire incident in which semi-burnt bundles of cash were discovered at his residence.

Sources suggest a high-level committee—likely comprising a Supreme Court judge, a Chief Justice of a High Court, and a renowned jurist—will be constituted to examine the allegations further.

Dhankhar’s sudden exit, coupled with ongoing judicial proceedings, has sparked political speculation and intensified the already tense atmosphere in Parliament’s monsoon session.
