On Tuesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at 16 locations in Tamil Nadu as part of an investigation into ISIS radicalisation. The searches, which began early in the day, were carried out based on specific intelligence inputs.
The operation targeted the hideouts of suspects believed to be involved in promoting ISIS ideology and recruiting individuals for the group, according to sources familiar with the investigation. The NIA has been actively working on cases related to ISIS radicalisation and recruitment across various states in India.
This case is a recent development, filed last year against ISIS supporters whose activities were uncovered during an investigation. On October 21, 2024, the NIA arrested three individuals in connection with the ISIS-inspired car bomb blast that took place in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, in October 2022. The investigation revealed that these individuals had conspired to fund the terrorist act. Additionally, an offshoot investigation into the radicalisation led to the arrest and charge-sheeting of four more suspects by the NIA.
