Manipur Police successfully arrested 15 insurgents from various groups in a series of raids conducted across the state on March 8 and 9, according to an official statement.
The police carried out search operations in vulnerable areas of both the hill and valley districts, keeping the situation under control despite tensions in the region. Among the arrests was a group of five active cadres from the NRFM organization in Imphal West District, involved in extortion and arms trafficking. Seized from them were mobile phones, a two-wheeler, and an ID card.
In separate raids on March 9, other members of the NRFM, PREPAK (Pro), and KCP (PWG) were arrested in Imphal East and Imphal West Districts for their roles in extortion and other illegal activities. Police recovered various items including mobile phones, demand letters, and large sums of cash during these operations. Additionally, three members of UPPK were arrested for extorting money from the public through illegal tribunals.
Security forces also apprehended a KYKL cadre in Tengnoupal District, while strict security measures were taken to ensure the safe movement of essential supplies along NH-2, with over 100 checkpoints set up across the state.
The police have warned the public against believing rumors and circulating fake videos on social media, urging people to return looted weapons, ammunition, and explosives to authorities. The ongoing operations aim to stabilize the region amidst the state’s challenging security situation.
