Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, took a holy dip at the sacred Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj during the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela on Monday. The event was attended by several saints and sages, including Baba Ramdev, making it a spiritually significant gathering.

Before the holy dip, Shah and CM Yogi met with saints and seers to seek their blessings. Following this, Shah is scheduled to visit several important spiritual landmarks in Prayagraj, including the Bade Hanuman Ji Temple and Abhayvat.

Later in the day, Shah will proceed to Juna Akhara, where he will meet the Maharaj and other saints, followed by lunch with them. His itinerary also includes a visit to Guru Sharananand Ji’s Ashram to meet Guru Sharananand Ji and Govind Giri Ji Maharaj. The Home Minister will conclude his visit with a meeting with the Shankaracharyas of Sringeri, Puri, and Dwaraka, before departing for Delhi in the evening.

The Mahakumbh has seen visits from several prominent leaders. Union Ministers, including Rajnath Singh, have participated in the sacred rituals, with the Uttar Pradesh cabinet recently convening a meeting in Prayagraj, followed by a holy dip at the Sangam. Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav also visited the Mahakumbh on Sunday, taking 11 holy dips.

Coinciding with Shah’s visit, a Dharma Sansad, organized by spiritual leader and Bhagwat Katha orator Devkinandan Thakurji Maharaj, is being convened at the Mahakumbh. The primary objective of the Dharma Sansad is to advocate for the creation of a Sanatana Board to protect Hindu temples, gurukuls, and gaushalas.

“We all want the Sanatana Board to be constituted. We are presenting a proposal to the government. All Dharmacharyas want the welfare of Sanatana Dharma and the security of temples. Preparations are underway, and people are arriving in large numbers,” Thakurji Maharaj told ANI.

The event has drawn participation from numerous saints and spiritual leaders, underscoring the unity and commitment to the preservation of Sanatana Dharma.

The Mahakumbh, held every 12 years, began on January 13 with Paush Purnima and will continue until February 26. The event has already witnessed an extraordinary turnout, with over 110 million devotees taking a holy dip in the first 14 days.

Rooted in Sanatan Dharma, the Mahakumbh is marked by the celestial alignment of planets, creating an auspicious period for spiritual cleansing and devotion. Pilgrims flock to the Triveni Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati (mythical)—to take the sacred dip, believed to absolve sins and grant moksha (liberation).

The Mahakumbh Mela 2025 is expected to host over 45 crore visitors, making it a historic and unparalleled spiritual gathering in India.
