The holy city of Prayagraj witnessed a massive influx of devotees at the Triveni Sangam as the Maha Kumbh commenced with the auspicious ‘Shahi Snan’ on Paush Purnima, Monday.

Thousands gathered at the sacred confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati to take a holy dip and perform rituals, marking the start of the world’s largest spiritual gathering.

Devotees expressed gratitude for the arrangements made for the event. Vijay Kumar, one of the attendees, shared, “The arrangements here are excellent. There’s provision for everything—food, accommodation, and the roads are well-maintained.”

Another devotee added, “I travel to every Kumbh Mela in India. It’s a deeply spiritual experience for me.”

Chunni Lal, a devotee from Jaipur, Rajasthan, extended his thanks to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for facilitating the event. “The government has done a great job. We feel so good being here,” he said.

To ensure the safety of the attendees, NDRF teams and water police from the Uttar Pradesh Police have been deployed at key locations.

This year’s Maha Kumbh is particularly significant due to a rare celestial alignment that occurs only once in 144 years, adding to the spiritual significance of the event.

The Traffic Police has implemented detailed plans to ensure smooth vehicular movement and safety. Entry to the Sangam Mela area will be through Jawaharlal Nehru Marg (Black Road), while exits will follow Triveni Marg.

During major bathing days, Akshayavat Darshan will remain closed to visitors. Parking facilities have been arranged at several locations, including Chini Mill Parking, Purva Surdas Parking, and Badra Saunoti Rahimapur Marg, among others.

Held every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh is expected to attract over 45 crore devotees from across the world. The event, which began on Paush Purnima, will conclude on February 26.

This grand gathering stands as a testament to India’s spiritual heritage, drawing millions for a celebration of faith and devotion.
