The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2:00 PM on Friday by Speaker Om Birla as opposition MPs continued to raise slogans and stage protests demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls being carried out in poll-bound Bihar.

Amid noisy scenes, opposition leaders entered the well of the House holding placards, prompting Speaker Birla to object to the disruption.

“There’s a way to register a protest. If you don’t want to run the Parliament… the House is adjourned till 2:00 PM today,” he said, urging members to adhere to parliamentary norms.

Before the adjournment, Birla criticized the display of banners and stressed the need for dialogue to resolve the deadlock.

“There will be representatives from the government… If there is disagreement, it should be expressed as per House norms,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Congress MP Manickam Tagore had moved an adjournment motion to discuss what he called the “mass disenfranchisement of 52 lakh voters in Bihar,” accusing the Modi government of misusing the Election Commission to undermine democracy.

This marks the fifth consecutive day of disruptions since the Monsoon Session of Parliament began on July 21.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and several INDIA bloc MPs, staged a protest outside Parliament at Makar Dwar, calling the SIR process an “attack on democracy.” Slogans like “Modi Sarkar Down Down” and “Stop the Attack on Democracy” were raised, and symbolic posters were torn in protest.

The opposition has also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address Parliament and the nation on pressing matters, including the Pahalgam terror attack, the SIR exercise, and claims by former US President Donald Trump regarding his alleged role in a ceasefire between India and Pakistan post Operation Sindoor.
