The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM on Thursday following intense sloganeering and protests by Opposition MPs demanding a debate on the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in poll-bound Bihar.

The House convened at 11 AM but was quickly thrown into disorder as opposition members raised slogans and displayed banners, prompting Speaker Om Birla to suspend proceedings. Urging MPs to maintain decorum, the Speaker said such conduct did not reflect the values expected in the House and questioned what message was being conveyed to the nation.

Targeting Congress indirectly, Birla remarked, “Such behaviour is not part of any party’s ‘sanskar’. But the manner in which the younger generation is conducting itself, the whole country is watching.”

Meanwhile, outside the House, INDIA bloc MPs continued their protest for the fourth consecutive day at Parliament’s Makar Dwar. Leaders including Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, JMM’s Mahua Maji, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, and RJD’s Manoj Jha carried banners declaring the SIR an “Attack on Democracy,” demanding the revision process be halted.

Addressing reporters earlier, Priyanka Gandhi accused the government of deliberately suppressing opposition voices. She alleged that disruptions were being orchestrated from the treasury benches to prevent debates.

“Whenever the Opposition wants to speak, we are not allowed. In the last session, the disruptions started from their side. They provoked a reaction, caused chaos, and then the House was adjourned. It suits them perfectly,” Gandhi said.

The Opposition has consistently submitted adjournment motions since the Monsoon Session began, demanding a thorough discussion on the SIR, which they allege is being used to manipulate voter rolls ahead of elections.
