Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Ra on Friday welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks condemning the felling of trees on Hyderabad University land in Kancha Gachibowli, Telangana. However, KTR urged the PM to back his words with action and prove the BJP is not in collusion with the Congress in the state.

“I was heartened to hear your speech about the destruction of Kancha Gachibowli Forest by Telangana CM Revanth Reddy. However, I hope it’s not just lip service,” KTR posted on X. He highlighted that the deforestation in Gachibowli is not only a severe environmental disaster but also part of a ₹10,000 crore financial fraud.

KTR claimed that the Congress-led Telangana government facilitated a major scam through the sale and mortgage of prime land, prompting him to alert key investigative bodies like the CVC, CBI, SFIO, SEBI, and RBI. He further referenced a report by the Supreme Court’s Central Empowered Committee (CEC), which confirmed financial irregularities and emphasized the need for a comprehensive central investigation.

“As our cities choke, environmental protection is paramount. Also equally important is exposing politicians like Revanth Reddy, who brazenly and shamelessly bulldoze the systems,” KTR stated. He appealed to the central government to expedite a full-fledged inquiry into the matter and demonstrate genuine commitment to accountability and ecological conservation.

His remarks come after PM Modi, during an April 14 rally in Hisar, Haryana, criticized the Congress for allegedly destroying forests with bulldozers and endangering wildlife. The PM’s statement coincided with the Supreme Court’s intervention in the matter, which ordered the Telangana Wildlife Warden to take urgent steps to protect wildlife in the affected 100-acre forested area.

The apex court, led by Justices BR Gavai and AG Masih, issued a stern warning to Telangana authorities, declaring that not a single additional tree should be felled. The bench even threatened to send responsible officers to a “temporary prison” at the deforestation site if further damage occurred.

Meanwhile, students of the University of Hyderabad have been actively protesting the auction of the disputed land, demanding it be transferred to the university instead.
