Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday marked the inaugural budget session of the newly elected BJP-led government with a unique ceremonial ‘Kheer’ preparation, symbolizing prosperity and sweetness in governance.

Expressing gratitude to all those involved in crafting the state budget, CM Gupta stated, “A big congratulations to all the leaders, ministers, MLAs, and the people who contributed their suggestions. This budget has been made under strong leadership, keeping in mind the welfare of Delhiites.”

Highlighting the significance of the event, she added, “For the first time, such a ceremony has been held in Delhi—’Kheer ki mithas se budget’. It has been offered to Lord Ram and will now be shared with those who contributed their ideas.”

The Delhi Legislative Assembly has convened its first budget session under the BJP government, with the state budget scheduled for presentation on March 25. The session, running from March 24 to March 28, may be extended if required.

This marks a historic moment for the BJP, which returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, following its victory in the 2025 Assembly elections.

Earlier in the day, auto drivers, traders, and shopkeepers gathered outside Vidhan Sabha to take part in the ‘Kheer’ ceremony, celebrating the new government’s financial vision.

BJP MLA Karnail Singh commented on the event, stating, “People from all walks of life, including traders and shopkeepers, have been invited. Today marks the first day of the budget session—’Meethi kheer, meetha budget’.”

As part of the session’s proceedings, CM Rekha Gupta will move a motion for the election of financial committees, a crucial step in shaping the government’s financial oversight and governance.

According to the List of Business, the motion includes electing nine members each to the Committee on Public Accounts, Committee on Estimates, and Committee on Government Undertakings from April 1, 2025.

Additionally, Deputy Speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and MLA Om Prakash Sharma will present the First Report of the Business Advisory Committee, outlining the Assembly’s legislative agenda. Sanjay Goyal and Poonam Sharma will also introduce the First Report of the Committee on Private Members’ Bills.

During the session, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on the functioning of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) will be presented in the House. This will be the third CAG report to be tabled in the Assembly, providing insights into the efficiency and challenges of Delhi’s public transport system.

With the BJP government aiming to usher in a new financial roadmap for Delhi, all eyes are on the upcoming budget and the policies that will shape the capital’s future.
