Senior leaders of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) are set to meet Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and party president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon, a day after the party’s newly appointed leadership in Kerala officially assumed charge.

The meeting, scheduled at Indira Bhavan in the Congress headquarters, comes as the party begins its preparations for the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections. The leaders are expected to discuss strategy, organizational restructuring, and the roadmap to reclaim governance in the state.

On May 12, Peravoor MLA Sunny Joseph formally took charge as the new KPCC President, succeeding K. Sudhakaran, who led the party during its intense confrontations with the ruling Left and BJP.

Joining Sunny Joseph in the new leadership team are A.P. Anilkumar, P.C. Vishnunadh, and Shafi Parambil, who have been appointed as KPCC working presidents. Attingal MP Adoor Prakash took over as the new convener of the United Democratic Front (UDF), the Congress-led opposition alliance in Kerala.

Addressing party workers at a welcoming ceremony in the KPCC headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said the leadership transition reflects a strategic move toward unity and a renewed focus on electoral success.

“This is a proud day for the party,” Venugopal said. “Sunny Joseph brings a calm and committed approach, rooted in the party’s ideology. With a cohesive leadership team now in place, we’re ready to launch a structured and united campaign to reclaim Kerala in 2026.”

He also praised former KPCC president K. Sudhakaran for leading the party with “integrity and courage” and welcomed Adoor Prakash to his pivotal role in strengthening UDF coordination.

Before taking office, the new KPCC leadership visited senior Congress leader and former Defence Minister A.K. Antony at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram.

Antony hailed Sunny Joseph’s rise from humble beginnings, calling it “a journey of dedication and hard work” that symbolizes the grassroots strength of the party.

“I have full confidence that in 2026, under the Congress’s leadership, the UDF will return to power with a Congress Chief Minister,” Antony said. “The path forward is one of unity, strengthening the Congress, and connecting with all sections of Kerala society.”

The meeting with Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge is expected to cement the party’s central support for the Kerala unit’s renewed efforts and signal a broader alignment as the Congress gears up for key state battles ahead.
