Amid rumors that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal might seek a Rajya Sabha seat, Congress leader Udit Raj took a sharp dig, claiming that even such a move wouldn’t shield Kejriwal from corruption allegations and suggesting he was “destined” for Tihar jail.
Speaking to ANI, Raj remarked, “He has been an activist from the beginning… I don’t think he will be able to escape the accusations against him. Even if he goes to Rajya Sabha, it’s almost certain that he will end up in Tihar jail. He should focus on reforming prisoners there and become the CM of Tihar jail.”
Speculation about Kejriwal’s potential Rajya Sabha bid intensified after AAP nominated sitting Rajya Sabha MP Sanjiv Arora for the Ludhiana West assembly by-election. This raised questions about whether Kejriwal could take the soon-to-be-vacant seat.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and MP Anurag Thakur accused Kejriwal of being the “kingpin” of the alleged liquor policy scam and trying to enter the Rajya Sabha “through the backdoor.”
“Fourteen CAG reports were stopped from being tabled in the Vidhan Sabha. AAP and Arvind Kejriwal wanted to hide their corruption. Now the truth is out and has been tabled in the Delhi Assembly. It’s clear that the mastermind behind the liquor scam is Arvind Kejriwal. To save face, he’s making his Rajya Sabha MPs vacate their seats and trying to enter through the backdoor,” Thakur alleged.
He also criticized Kejriwal’s influence over the Punjab government, suggesting it was being controlled “remotely” from Delhi.
“I ask the people of Punjab — do you want a leader who runs your state government through remote control to become an MP from Punjab?” Thakur questioned.
