Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal has accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating harassment against AAP workers using Delhi Police, claiming such “hooliganism” will not be tolerated in the national capital.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Kejriwal wrote, “Amit Shah ji has completely lost his temper. Amit ji, you may have committed hooliganism in Gujarat, but Delhi will not tolerate your hooliganism.”

Senior AAP leader and MP Sanjay Singh echoed Kejriwal’s allegations, accusing the BJP of using police to target AAP workers out of fear of losing the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

“The BJP is losing the elections badly. The police, scared of defeat, are harassing our workers. Delhi Police is raiding the house of AAP worker Bunty Shekhawat in BR Camp of the New Delhi Legislative Assembly, flouting the rules and laws,” Singh said in a post on X, tagging the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Delhi Police Commissioner to take note of the situation.

Speaking to ANI, Singh further alleged that AAP workers were being detained based on “false complaints.” He criticized the inaction against BJP leaders despite complaints filed against them. “When Parvesh Verma distributes money and other things, no action is taken even after we file complaints. On the other hand, a false complaint was made against our party workers, and they were detained. How can we campaign in such a situation?” Singh questioned.

The Delhi Assembly elections are set to take place in a single phase on February 5, with the counting of votes scheduled for February 8. A total of 699 candidates are contesting for 70 assembly seats.

While the Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 consecutive years, has faced major setbacks in the past two elections, AAP has dominated the political landscape. The party won a landslide victory in 2015, securing 67 out of 70 seats, and maintained a stronghold in 2020, winning 62 seats. The BJP managed to win only three seats in 2015 and eight seats in 2020.

As the election date approaches, the AAP and BJP continue to trade barbs, raising the stakes in what promises to be a fiercely contested battle for Delhi.
