In a landmark move, the Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has successfully extradited gangster Mayank Singh, also known as Sunil Meena, from Baku, Azerbaijan — the first such extradition in the history of the state police.

After completing all legal formalities, Singh was flown to Ranchi and will be produced before the Ramgarh court today, where the ATS is expected to seek his remand for interrogation.

Singh, who faces nearly 50 criminal cases across Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and other states, is suspected to be a crucial link between local gangster Aman Sahu and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

“We have extradited him from Baku, Azerbaijan. This is the first successful extradition for Jharkhand police, and we hope to bring back other criminals hiding abroad as well,” said Rishav Kumar Jha, SP ATS.

According to preliminary inputs, Singh allegedly acted as a point of contact between Sahu and Bishnoi’s network, coordinating operations even from abroad.

Last year, Raipur police had arrested four shooters from Rajasthan and Jharkhand who were reportedly working on Singh’s instructions. The gang members, using codenames, had been planning major attacks across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan but were intercepted before execution. A pistol intended for their operations was also recovered.

Singh’s extradition marks a significant breakthrough in curbing the interstate criminal nexus involving the Bishnoi and Sahu gangs.
