Following Meghalaya Police’s announcement that Sonam, wife of the late Raja Raghuvanshi, has surrendered, Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, said the family will not consider Sonam an accused unless she confesses to any wrongdoing. However, he added that if she is involved, she must face punishment.

Vipul also demanded a CBI investigation, citing lack of communication and transparency from Meghalaya authorities. Speaking to reporters, he said, “We will not agree that Sonam is the accused until and unless she confesses. Both Raja and Sonam were happy in their marriage. We have not received my brother’s post-mortem report. Meghalaya CM says police are working 24/7, but their officials have not responded to our calls. We want Madhya Pradesh Police and CBI to probe this case.”

Meanwhile, Sonam’s father, Devi Singh, claimed his daughter’s innocence and accused Meghalaya police and government of spreading false stories. He said Sonam was found at a dhaba in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, where police took her to a hospital. “My daughter cannot kill her husband. The state government has been lying from the start,” Singh said.

Sonam was found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur road, according to UP Police. The couple went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, and Raja’s body was recovered on June 2.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced the arrest of three suspects from Madhya Pradesh and the surrender of a woman, identified as Sonam, with the search continuing for one more suspect. Sangma tweeted, “Within 7 days, a breakthrough has been achieved by the Meghalaya police… three assailants arrested, a female surrendered, operation ongoing to catch one more.”

The Meghalaya DGP confirmed the arrests to ANI. The case remains under investigation.
