Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of the Indian Army made the ultimate sacrifice amid heavy cross-border shelling by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC), the White Knight Corps confirmed on Wednesday. The shelling, which began late on May 6 and intensified through May 7, targeted both military and civilian areas in Poonch, Tangdhar, and surrounding regions.
Lance Naik Kumar, a brave soldier from the 5 Field Regiment, was killed during the early hours of May 7. “#GOC and all ranks of #WhiteKnightCorps salute the supreme sacrifice of Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar of 5 Fd Regt,” the Corps posted on social media platform X, honoring his dedication and bravery.
The Corps also extended support to civilians affected by the onslaught, adding, “We also stand in solidarity with all victims of the targeted attacks on innocent civilians in #Poonch Sector.”
Pakistan’s unprovoked shelling caused widespread panic and destruction, damaging homes and forcing many villagers to flee. At least 15 civilians have died and 43 have been injured, according to defence sources. Despite the threats, local residents remain steadfast in their support for the Indian Army’s response, Operation Sindoor.
Launched in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor aims to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). As Pakistan continues its ceasefire violations even after the operation began, shelling has been reported in the Poonch and Rajouri sectors as well.
In the face of danger, villagers have shown resilience. “We will not leave the place and support the Indian Army,” one local man said. “The operation is a befitting reply… We have sent the women and children from here, but the men will stay.”
The situation remains tense along the LoC as security forces maintain heightened alertness and continue efforts to safeguard both civilians and national sovereignty.
