The Indian Army successfully intercepted and destroyed multiple Pakistani armed drones in the early hours of Saturday, preventing a potential large-scale attack near Khasa Cantonment in Punjab’s Amritsar. The interception was part of the ongoing Operation Sindoor, launched in response to Pakistan’s recent escalations along the western border.
According to a statement by the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) on X, the drones were spotted around 5 AM and were instantly neutralized by Indian air defence units. “Pakistan’s blatant escalation with drone strikes and other munitions continues along our western borders. The hostile drones were instantly engaged and destroyed… The Indian Army will thwart enemy designs,” the post read.
The incident marks another flashpoint in the growing tensions between India and Pakistan. Operation Sindoor, which began earlier this week, has already seen the neutralization of nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, underscoring India’s strong retaliatory posture.
Debris from the attempted drone incursion was later discovered in agricultural fields in Mughlani Kot Village in Amritsar, with burnt areas indicating an aerial explosion. Similar fragments were found in Barmer, Rajasthan, near the Uttarlai Air Force Station and Jalipa Military Station, following another thwarted attack.
Meanwhile, sources confirmed to ANI that India launched retaliatory strikes on at least four airbases in Pakistan early Saturday, following Pakistan’s attacks on 26 locations across India. Intermittent cross-border firing continues at several points along the Line of Control (LoC), as both sides remain on high alert.
The Ministry of Defence has reiterated its call for citizens in border regions to remain indoors, follow all safety advisories, and remain vigilant amid the ongoing escalation.
