In a significant escalation along the Line of Control, Indian Army Air Defence Units shot down two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir, defence sources reported on Friday. The drone intrusion occurred during a period of intense artillery exchanges between Indian and Pakistani forces in the region.

According to the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff, Pakistan also attempted to strike military installations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur using a combination of drones and missiles. However, Indian Armed Forces effectively neutralised all incoming threats using both kinetic and non-kinetic countermeasures, ensuring there were no casualties or damage.

“Military Stations of Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur in proximity to the International Boundary, in Jammu and Kashmir, targeted by Pakistan using missiles and drones. No losses. Threat neutralised by Indian Armed Forces as per SoP,” read an official statement from the Integrated Defence Staff.

In response to the heightened cross-border activity, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security meeting on Thursday with the Director Generals of all border guarding forces. The discussions focused on assessing India’s operational readiness and border security following the Pakistani attack that also targeted areas in Rajasthan, including Jaisalmer, Samba, RS Pura, Arnia, and Satwari. All incoming missiles were successfully intercepted by Indian air defence systems.

Separately, Shah reviewed airport security across the country with the Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), amid increasing vigilance at critical infrastructure sites.

These developments follow India’s retaliatory “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, during which Indian forces launched missile strikes on nine targets inside Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure reportedly linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, in response to a deadly April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 28 civilians.

The situation remains tense along the border as both sides continue to assert military preparedness in an increasingly volatile security environment.
