Rekha Gupta, the newly elected MLA from Shalimar Bagh, expressed deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the party leadership for placing their trust in her, vowing to meet their expectations in her new role as Chief Minister of Delhi.
“PM Modi has shown immense faith in a simple party worker and daughter like me. I will stand up to his expectations,” Gupta said after arriving at her Shalimar Bagh residence. She continued, “I want to thank the party leadership and PM Modi for placing such trust in a commoner like me and giving me such a significant responsibility. My journey can be an inspiration for every woman, proving that a middle-class woman can reach the highest levels of leadership in the party.”
Gupta also thanked the people of Delhi for their support, saying that a “golden period” was on the horizon for the city. “I want to thank the party high command, PM Modi, and the people of Delhi for supporting and choosing me. A major change is coming to Delhi; the golden period for the city is about to begin. Fulfilling PM Modi’s vision and our commitments to the people is my priority,” she added.
Gupta will be sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister at a ceremony at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital on February 20. As the fourth woman to hold the position in Delhi, she continues a legacy that has seen female leadership from the BJP, Congress, and Aam Aadmi Party. Gupta will succeed Atishi.
The BJP’s return to power in Delhi sparked celebrations among workers and supporters. Gupta’s husband, Manish Gupta, along with her supporters, also celebrated the announcement of her appointment as the next Chief Minister.
