A series of critical Cabinet meetings, including the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA), and Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), concluded this afternoon at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence in New Delhi, following the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
The CCS meeting, convened for the second time since the April 23 attack that claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national, focused on reviewing national security preparedness and potential strategic responses.
During the briefing, officials highlighted the cross-border links to the attack, emphasizing its timing in the backdrop of peaceful elections and ongoing development in Jammu and Kashmir. The government reiterated its condemnation of the attack and extended condolences to the victims’ families, along with well wishes for the injured.
As part of its strong response, the government had earlier placed the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance, sending a clear message to Pakistan over its alleged support for terrorism.
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi also held a separate high-level security meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Anil Chauhan, and the three service chiefs. PM Modi assured complete operational freedom to the armed forces and expressed full confidence in their capabilities to respond decisively to any threats.
A Cabinet briefing is scheduled for 3:00 PM today to provide further updates on the government’s course of action.
