Women and children up to the age of 15 will be able to travel free of cost on state-run buses in Haryana from 12 PM on August 8 to midnight on August 9, as part of special arrangements for the Raksha Bandhan festival.
General Manager of State Transport Rahul Jain said the facility will apply to all state-operated services, including kilometre scheme buses, mini buses, and ordinary buses. “Special arrangements have been made at three bus stands, with officers assigned booth-wise to ensure smooth operations. A total of 159 buses will operate on all routes during this period,” Jain confirmed.
He also shared that a GPS tracking system is being implemented on all buses, with half of the depot installations already completed.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also announced free travel for women on Uttarakhand Transport Corporation buses for Raksha Bandhan. Extending his greetings, Dhami said the festival represents mutual affection, trust, and cultural heritage, while reaffirming the state’s commitment to women’s empowerment.
During his visit to flood-hit Dharali, an emotional moment unfolded when a tourist from Gujarat, stranded due to landslides, tied a piece of her dupatta on the CM’s wrist as a Rakhi. The woman, Dhangauri Baraulia, was later rescued along with her family after three days of relentless relief efforts.
Dhami said the state government stands with every disaster-affected citizen and will continue working tirelessly on relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. The incident became a touching example of solidarity and hope amid the ongoing crisis.
