The mother of Haryana Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase in Rohtak, has claimed that elections and political rivalries cost her daughter’s life.
“The election and the party took my daughter’s life. Because of this, she made some enemies. These (the culprits) could be from the party, could be her friends as well… On February 28, she was at home,” said Savita, the grieving mother.
Savita alleged that her daughter’s rising stature in the Congress party had caused jealousy among some people. “She was going with Rahul Gandhi, she was close to the Hooda family—this is why people were having problems, they were jealous,” she added.
Expressing her anguish, she stated, “We received a phone call from the police station about the incident. My daughter was very close to Asha Hooda (wife of Bhupinder Singh Hooda). I won’t perform her last rites until she gets justice.”
Savita also mentioned a family dispute and recalled the trauma of losing her elder son in 2011, for which the family never received justice. “After the election, she had become a little disillusioned with the party. She said she wanted a job and didn’t want to work much for the party anymore. She was associated with Congress for the past 10 years and was also pursuing an LL.B. She had agreed to get married.”
Jatin, the brother of the deceased, confirmed his sister’s active role in the party, saying, “She had undertaken padayatra with Rahul Gandhi.”
Senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda called for a thorough investigation into the murder. “The Congress party has demanded an investigation, and whether it was someone from the party or outside will only come out through proper investigation.”
Hooda added that Congress workers and associates of local MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra had visited the mortuary where Himani Narwal’s body is being kept. “We have demanded a proper investigation and strict punishment for the guilty.”
Himani Narwal’s body was found in a large blue suitcase near the Sampla bus stand in Rohtak on Friday, and the case was reported to the Sampla police station.
Haryana Congress MLA Geeta Bhukkal described the incident as “inhumane” and called for a high-level investigation. “The manner in which a daughter was killed is a matter of concern. Where is our state, our society heading? A high-level committee should be formed to investigate this.”
Meanwhile, Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra confirmed that the deceased had been actively involved with Bhupinder Hooda and Deepinder Hooda during the election campaign and supported the call for a thorough inquiry.
