A gunfight broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning, according to official sources. The clash occurred during a search operation launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Kulnar Ajas area, based on intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the region.

“On April 25, 2025, based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists, a Joint Search Operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the general area of Kolnar Ajas, Bandipora. Contact was established, and a firefight ensued,” the Chinar Corps of the Indian Army stated on X.

Further details regarding the encounter are awaited as the situation continues to unfold.

This development comes a day after an Army jawan succumbed to injuries in an encounter that broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district. The firefight in Basantgarh led to grievous injuries for the soldier, who later died despite medical efforts.

In the wake of ongoing security challenges in the region, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi is scheduled to visit Srinagar later on Friday to assess the security situation in the area. During his visit, he will meet with senior Army commanders and officials from other security agencies to review the current conditions, including recent ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control.

The Indian Army remains on high alert, conducting multiple search operations aimed at neutralizing terrorists in the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people.
