External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India’s historical role as a source of technology and its ongoing efforts to reclaim that position through initiatives like the New Education Policy (NEP). Speaking at the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam 3.0 in Varanasi, Jaishankar outlined how the NEP aims to equip people to face the challenges of the evolving global landscape.

“We have historically been a source of technology for the world, and today, we are working to reclaim that position. The NEP is part of this effort, as it prepares our people to tackle the challenges of the new world,” Jaishankar said. He pointed to India’s progress in space exploration, driven by young talent, as an example of this forward-thinking approach. Additionally, he mentioned the country’s advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI), noting Prime Minister Modi’s participation in the recent AI Summit in Paris.

Jaishankar also highlighted how India is making strides in modern technologies like AI and drones while underscoring the value of tradition. He emphasized the potential synergy between tradition and innovation, citing yoga and traditional medicine as areas where India’s heritage supports global progress.

“We focus on developing the talent of our people, ensuring that their historical and cultural background can contribute to advancing technology. Through the NEP, we are introducing new industries, and the AI Summit and drone programs are examples of this evolution,” Jaishankar noted.

He further explained that blending tradition with technology is essential for growth. “Even the Prime Minister has spoken about the relationship between technology and tradition. Yoga, which was initially seen as just a physical exercise, is now gaining recognition globally. Similarly, traditional medicine, once viewed skeptically, is being rediscovered for its value,” Jaishankar added. He called for a deeper understanding and global dissemination of traditional practices to enhance their impact in modern times.
