In a tragic turn of events, a 20-year-old woman named Saira was allegedly shot dead by a male friend late Monday night in East Delhi’s Shahdara district, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place in the GTB Enclave area, where the accused reportedly fired two rounds at her following a heated argument and fled the scene.

CCTV footage from the area showed Saira and the accused walking calmly moments before the altercation escalated. “An argument suddenly broke out, after which the man pulled out a pistol and shot Saira twice at close range,” said a Delhi Police official.

A PCR call alerted the police to a woman lying injured near the service road opposite Sunder Nagri. Responding officers found Saira dead with two bullet wounds. A forensic team later confirmed she had been shot at close proximity.

Saira had been living with her sister Sayyeda and brother-in-law since the recent death of her mother. The family was preparing for the chaliswa (40-day mourning ceremony) scheduled for Thursday when this second tragedy struck.

Police have identified the suspect and launched multiple raids to apprehend him. A case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered at GTB Enclave Police Station.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities probing the motive behind the murder.
