Delhi recorded a voter turnout of 60.42% in the highly anticipated assembly elections on Wednesday, as reported by the Election Commission of India. The elections saw fierce competition across all 70 constituencies, with voters actively participating in the crucial polls.

According to the ECI data, North East Delhi had the highest voter turnout at 66.25%, while South East Delhi recorded the lowest at 56.16%. The turnout percentages in other districts were as follows: Central (59.09%), East (62.37%), New Delhi (57.13%), North (59.55%), North West (60.07%), Shahdara (63.94%), South (58.16%), South-West (61.07%), and West (60.76%).

While the voting process concluded, exit polls revealed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to emerge as the frontrunner, with predictions of a likely victory, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is expected to fall short. The Congress party, on the other hand, is projected to continue its poor performance in the assembly elections.

The exit polls varied on the margin of BJP’s expected win. One poll predicted that BJP could win between 51-60 of the 70 seats, while two others forecasted an AAP victory. The exit polls were published after voting concluded on Wednesday.

The P-MARQ exit poll predicted that BJP will secure 39-49 seats, AAP will win 21-31 seats, and Congress could grab 0-1 seat. Matrize’s exit poll indicated a closer race, with BJP expected to win 35-40 seats and AAP 32-37 seats, with Congress predicted to win one seat.

People’s Pulse exit poll projected BJP could win 51-60 seats, while AAP might win 10-19 seats, and Congress is expected to secure no seats. The People’s Insight exit poll forecasted BJP to win 40-44 seats, AAP 25-29 seats, and Congress 0-1 seat. Other exit polls, such as JVC and Chanakya Strategies, echoed similar predictions, with BJP leading and AAP trailing.

In the 2020 assembly elections, AAP had a landslide victory, securing 62 of the 70 seats, while BJP won just eight, and Congress failed to secure any seats.

Voting for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections wrapped up at 6:00 PM on Wednesday across all 11 districts. However, the process wasn’t without controversy, as both AAP and BJP leveled accusations of irregularities. AAP alleged voter coercion by Delhi Police at the Sainik Vihar polling station in Shakur Basti, accusing them of “hijacking the election.” BJP workers, meanwhile, protested in Seelampur Assembly constituency, alleging incidents of bogus voting as voters stood in line to cast their ballots.

The results of this closely contested election between AAP, BJP, and Congress will be announced on February 8, when the vote counting takes place.
