As part of the ongoing Swachh Bharat Mission, Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay participated in a cleanliness campaign at Aurobindo Market, Green Park on Thursday. The drive aims to promote hygiene and civic responsibility among residents of the national capital.
Speaking to ANI, Mayor Singh emphasized that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is actively furthering the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who launched the Swachh Bharat Mission on August 15, 2014.
“CM Rekha Gupta has appealed to every Delhiite to take this mission forward and contribute to making the entire city clean,” said Singh, applauding the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for its efforts in reducing garbage and enhancing public hygiene.
He added that the campaign involves participation from a wide spectrum of society, including local councillors, MCD officials, and Delhi residents. “We are all taking a collective oath to make Delhi clean, green, and healthy,” he said.
Echoing the sentiment, BJP MLA Satish Upadhyay highlighted the importance of citizen involvement. “PM Modi encouraged the nation to make cleanliness a daily habit. A healthy India begins with a clean India,” he said. He also reiterated CM Rekha Gupta’s call for a month-long sanitation drive from August 1 to August 30 across Delhi.
Upadhyay thanked the MCD and the Delhi government for mobilizing efforts to instill civic awareness and responsibility through such campaigns. The initiative is part of a broader movement to improve the capital’s cleanliness and environmental health.
