Following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, the Delhi government has enforced the Central Government’s directive mandating all Pakistani nationals—except those with diplomatic, medical, or long-term visas—to leave India immediately.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Home Department of the Government of NCT of Delhi confirmed that all valid visas issued to Pakistani citizens, barring medical, diplomatic, and long-term categories, stand revoked as of April 27, 2025. Additionally, it stated that existing medical visas would be invalid after April 29, and no new visas would be issued moving forward.
This move is part of a broader set of diplomatic and administrative countermeasures announced by the Centre in response to the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where terrorists targeted tourists in Baisaran meadow, killing 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.
In addition to the visa revocations, the Indian government has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, closed the Attari Integrated Check Post, and scrapped visa privileges under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme for Pakistani nationals. Furthermore, Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors in the Pakistani High Commission have been declared Persona Non Grata and ordered to leave within a week, with reciprocal withdrawals from India’s High Commission in Islamabad.
The size of both countries’ diplomatic missions is also being reduced, with staff strength to be capped at 30 by May 1, 2025.
These measures reflect India’s intensifying response to cross-border terrorism and underscore the deteriorating diplomatic ties between the two nations in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy.
