As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set for a victory in the Delhi Assembly elections based on early trends from the Election Commission, Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address party workers at the BJP headquarters later this evening.

“People of Delhi have shown immense faith in PM Modi. This is a huge victory for us and for the people of Delhi,” Sachdeva said. “PM Modi will come to the party headquarters this evening to address our workers.”

Celebrations erupted outside the BJP office in New Delhi as early trends indicated that the party was poised to return to power in the national capital after a gap of 27 years. BJP workers were seen bursting firecrackers, dancing, and singing in celebration. Key BJP leaders, including Sachdeva and party vice president Baijayant Panda, gathered at the party office to mark the occasion.

As of around 1 pm, according to the Election Commission, the BJP was leading in 47 constituencies, surpassing the majority mark required to form the government in Delhi’s 70-member assembly. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was ahead in 22 seats, while Congress failed to secure any seats. The majority mark to form the government in Delhi is 36.

Earlier, Sachdeva told ANI that the people of Delhi have chosen PM Modi’s “good model of governance” over Arvind Kejriwal’s “bad model.” He emphasized that the election was a clear contest between effective governance and mismanagement.

“The situation in Delhi—contaminated water, broken roads, poor sanitation, pollution in Yamuna, and more—reflects Kejriwal’s governance model, which the people of Delhi have rejected,” Sachdeva stated. “On the other hand, Modi ji’s model of good governance is respected nationwide, and the people have chosen good governance.”

Sachdeva further criticized AAP leaders such as Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi, and Saurabh Bharadwaj, accusing them of betraying the public. “Their prominent leaders will lose because they have cheated the public. Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Atishi—these are faces of corruption. The people will not forgive them,” he said.

Polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly took place on February 5, with a voter turnout of 60.54%. The BJP’s campaign, led by PM Modi, focused on criticizing the AAP over issues like the pollution in the Yamuna River and the renovation of Arvind Kejriwal’s residence as Chief Minister. The PM also targeted Kejriwal by using terms like “Aapda” and “Sheesh Mahal” during his speeches.
