Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Manish Sisodia on Saturday conceded defeat in the Jangpura constituency to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Speaking to the media, Sisodia expressed gratitude for the support he received, stating, “The party workers fought hard, and we worked diligently. The people supported us as well, but I lost by just 600 votes. I congratulate the winning candidate and hope he will work for the betterment of the constituency.”
According to the latest trends from the Election Commission, the BJP is on track to form a government in Delhi after 27 years. The BJP is currently leading in 48 seats, while AAP is leading in 22. Congress has yet to secure any seats.
Top AAP leaders, including party chief Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, and leader Satyendra Jain, are all trailing in their respective constituencies.
Earlier, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva commented that the people of Delhi have rejected Arvind Kejriwal’s “bad model” of governance, choosing instead the “good governance” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasized that the election was a clear contest between good and bad governance.
“The issues in Delhi—contaminated water, broken roads, poor sanitation, and pollution in the Yamuna—are all a reflection of Kejriwal’s failed governance, which the people have rejected,” Sachdeva said. “On the other hand, Modi Ji’s model of governance is one that commands respect across the nation, and the people have chosen good governance.”
Regarding the AAP leadership, Sachdeva remarked that many prominent leaders, including Kejriwal and Sisodia, would lose because of their alleged betrayal of the public trust, referring to them as “faces of corruption.”
Polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly was held on February 5, with a total voter turnout of 60.54%.
