Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met and greeted well-wishers outside her residence on Thursday morning as supporters gathered to congratulate her on her new role. Later in the day, she is set to propose BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht’s name for the Deputy Speaker post in the Delhi Assembly.

As per the Legislative Assembly’s List of Business, the Chief Minister will move the motion, stating: “That, Mohan Singh Bisht, an Hon’ble Member of this House, be chosen as the Deputy Speaker of this House.”

A second motion, proposing Bisht’s name, will be presented by MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and seconded by Gajender Singh Yadav, confirming strong support from BJP ranks.

Meanwhile, the Assembly is expected to see heated discussions over the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on Delhi’s liquor policy, officially titled the “Performance Audit Report on Regulation and Supply of Liquor in Delhi.”

On Tuesday, CM Gupta presented the report in the Assembly, sparking sharp reactions from the opposition. Before the session, she chaired a meeting with BJP MLAs to strategize on handling the report’s fallout and ensure the smooth operation of House proceedings.

The CAG report, which covers the regulation and distribution of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and foreign liquor from 2017-18 to 2020-21, has reignited demands for a deeper investigation into the alleged liquor policy scam. This report is one of 14 pending CAG reports scrutinizing the performance of the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, adding further tension to the Assembly’s agenda.

As the political landscape in Delhi grows more charged, the day’s proceedings are set to shape the ongoing debate on governance and accountability in the capital.
