Delhi Chief Minister and AAP leader Atishi has written a letter to the Election Officer, accusing Delhi Police of attempting to close complaints against BJP workers who allegedly intimidated AAP volunteers on January 21 and 22. In the letter, Atishi sought the transfer of the police officials involved in pressuring AAP workers to sign false statements.
Atishi claimed that AAP volunteers were being coerced into signing statements that falsely stated no violence or intimidation occurred. “I had made a complaint regarding the intimidation of AAP volunteers by BJP workers on January 21 and 22. Both complaints are enclosed. On January 21, I received a notice from SHO Govindpuri regarding the complaint made that day,” the letter reads.
However, instead of investigating the allegations, Atishi stated that police officers were pressuring AAP volunteers to provide false statements. “Our volunteers, who had received threats from BJP workers, are now receiving calls from the police under the pretext of taking statements. SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan are approaching our volunteers, trying to convince them to file false statements and close the case,” the letter continued.
Atishi further detailed how the investigating officers, including Jai Bhagwan and Sushil Sharma, met with several AAP volunteers and dictated statements claiming no violence or intimidation had taken place. “The officers pressured the volunteers to sign these statements. When our volunteers refused, the statements were torn up by the police officers,” she wrote.
The Chief Minister expressed concern over the actions of the local police officers and requested their immediate transfer. “Given the serious concerns regarding the collusion of the local SHO and the investigating officers, I request that SHO Dharamveer, Inspector Sushil Sharma, and Constable Jai Bhagwan be transferred out of AC 51,” Atishi said.
Earlier this week, Atishi had also written to an election official requesting the deployment of paramilitary forces in Kalkaji to ensure the safety of voters and party workers during the upcoming elections.
As Delhi’s assembly elections approach, tensions between AAP and BJP continue to escalate, with both parties accusing each other of various irregularities. The elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting set to take place on February 8.
